We have been showing our continued support by donating £2500 to Just a Drop this week.
Having run, swam and cycled for international water aid charity, Just a Drop last year (not to mention funds raised during our annual corporate jolly, the 4 Aces golf event), we decided to kick start 2017 with the donation of a lump sum and have paid a further £2,500 into the charity’s bank account.
It’s a gesture made in order to start as we mean to go on and a sign of commitment to the charity going forward. Given our attachment to the water cooler market, it’s a fitting cause to be associated with – this is a charity that, quite simply, works tirelessly to give people clean water.
Just a Drop supports communities around the world, delivering sustainable clean water, sanitation and hygiene and, in the process, transforming lives. Clean water enables people to lift themselves out of poverty and enjoy a brighter future and so this charity is possibly one of the most relevant and life-affirming causes we could be involved with.
Facts on the charity’s website are stark and to the point: 884 million people around the world don’t have access to clean water and a child dies every two minutes from a water-related disease. It’s quite shocking and yet, on the flip side, all it takes is as little as £1 to provide a child with clean, safe water for 10 years. £36 will provide a family with a lasting supply of the same.
It’s incredibly heartening and rewarding to know that the money we have raised to-date is being spent providing 798 pupils with a rain water harvesting tank, latrines, hand washing facilities and menstrual hygiene management at a school in Uganda. And that’s also why £2,500 is just the start this year.
